FIHS Seniors Joins the M3 CHALLENGE 2009

I am proud and thrilled to share to everyone that two teams with five students per team will participate in this year's Moody Mega Math Challenge 2009.  Mei Yun Liu, Alina Linkevich, Nelinton Rosario, Jin Yong Kim and Kahing Li represent Team 1 while Rong Lin, Yaki Lin, Ya Lian Yang, Mei ling Guo and Hong Yi Zhou represent Team 2.  These 2 teams will compete online with other 11th and 12th grade students from different High Schools in metropolitan New York City and the entire Northeast,i.e. all New England and Mid-Atlantic states, from Maine to Washington, D.C. this Saturday, March 7, 2009.  Four hundred sixty-six teams (2086 students), each consisting of three to five students, will gather in order to solve an applied math-modeling problem based on a real-world issue. The topic is entirely unknown until they download the problem at 7:00 a.m. on the day of the competition and the teams will have until 9:00 p.m. that same night to research the problem, formulate assumptions, develop and test a model, analyze their findings, and summarize their response in a solution paper, which they will upload to the Challenge website. Much to the two teams' desire to win, the students firmly believe that this is a great learning and collaborative experience for them ( a good addition to their resume as one of the team members said).  For more information about the chalenge, check this site: www.m3challenge.siam.org.  To the two teams, good luck and enjoy the challenge.
